SFWC2005-2006 Season Summary

 Mar 10-11 2006  - Jr. High State Championships Vincenzo Cardone places 3rd at Junior High State Championships! Vince, competed in seven hard fought matches with Ohio's best. Posting victories over: Cannon-New Lex,Robinson-Bellbrook, Zabel-Massillon, Hendricks-Cincinnati, Alkyer-Wadsworth,Fabry-Columbus. After missing his target of becoming a JH State Champ, with a defeat in quarterfinal action (Erick Howard of North Canton), Vincenzo bounced back with a string of four victories to place 3rd and finish his season with a 38-2 record.  Feb 19 2006 - NW Ohio Junior High District Championships Twenty 6th thru 8th grade SFWC members traveled to BGSU's Perry Field House and competed in 56 individual matches. Amongst stiff competition, 17 victories were achieved. Vincenzo Cardone placed 3rd to become a qualifier for the OAC JH State Championships. See State Tournament Bracket Here |
 Feb 12 2006 - 5th thru 8th Grade Cleveland CYO Championships The SF squad traveled to St. Edward H.S. for the Diocesan Championships, and a close to a successful CYO season. Of the eight wrestlers competing, six came home with hardware. Daniel and Alex placed 3rd. Michael and Sam placed 4th. Travis placed 5th & Derrick placed 6th. |
 Feb 4 2006 - 5th thru 8th grade Cleveland CYO Sectional Tournament - The SF CYO team competed in the league sectional tournament at St. Albert's. Fifteen wrestlers competed in 47 matches and 10 qualified for the league "City" Championships. Dan, Alex and Vincenzo were crowned champions. Kent placed 2nd. Jake, Zach, Travis and Sam placed 3rd. Michael and Derrick placed 4th. |
 Jan 29 2006 - Knight Youth Tournament @ SFS - 241 wrestlers from Ohio and Michigan participated in the 1st Annual Knight Youth Tournament. Competition was tough across the 5 divisions where wrestlers ranged in ages from 5 to 14. The morning session (divisions 1-3) resulted in the crowning of 22 individual champions. The afternoon session (divisions 4-5) crowned 22 individual champions. In additon to trophies, the Champions received a T-shirt and all place winners got their picture taken on the awards podium!  Jan 22 2006 - 5th thru 8th grade Cleveland CYO - Eighteen wrestlers participated in dual meet competition with St. Marys and St. Gabriel. The Jr. Knights competed in 22 matches and came away with 12 victories. |

 Jan 8 2006 -  5th thru 8th grade Cleveland CYO - Toledo St. Francis traveled to St. Albert the Great Parish in North Royalton OH with 18 wrestlers and 4 coaches to compete with two G.C.CYO teams: St. Albert and Holy Cross. The Knights competed in 32 individual matches and came away with 15 victories. Quality mat time was gained!! |
 Jan 7 2006 - Elmwood 'Early Bird' Youth Tournament - Four members of the SFWC attended the Elmwood Royal "Early Bird" Biddy Wrestling Tournament. The crew wrestled 12 matches and were victorious in 10. Patrick and Derrick were crowned Champions, Kent was a silver medalist and Josh brought home the bronze! |
 Jan 4 2006 -  Junior High intra-squad and Oak Harbor Matchup - Prior to the Varsity dual meet the Junior High wrestling team matched up with Oak Harbor JH and managed to get some intra-squad mat time. SFWC wrestled a total of 27 matches. Valuable experience was gained! |
 Dec 27 2005 -  Junior High @ Norwalk St. Paul Invitational - Eleven wrestlers and two coaches traveled to Norwalk and competed in a field of 13 teams including Monroeville, Norwalk, Tiffin Calvert, Toledo Christian, Edison, Sandusky St. Marys, St. Paul, Plymuth, Seneca East, Fremont St. Joes, Tiffin Columbian, and Fostoria St. Wendelyn. Thirty-five individual matches were contested. All St. Francis team members won at least one match and the squad came away with 20 victories, 2 Champions: Alex (122), Vincenzo(172), a runner-up Tony (142), and two 3rd place finishers: Dan (104), and Charles (110). It was a great day for all involved!! |
 Dec 22 2005 - Junior High Elmwood Duals - Twenty-two Knight wrestlers and three coaches traveled to Bloomdale OH to participate in the Elmwood Junior High Duals Tournament. In addition to the Elmwood Royals, the Knights challenged Bowling Green, Olmstead Falls, Grant, and Woodmore. The Knights competed in 58 individual matches and as a team, ended up with a 3-2 dual meet record. Experience was gained, fun was had by all! |
 Dec 18 2005 - 5th thru 8th grade Cleveland CYO - Toledo St. Francis took 18 wrestlers and 4 coaches to Ascension Parish for the inaugural Cleveland CYO event. The knights competed with St. Gabriel and Ascension & wrestled a total of 35 individual matches. Great experience was gained by all! |
 Aug 2005 - Junior Olympics - Nick Brown and Eric Michaels represented Ohio in the 2005 Junior Olympics in New Orleans, LA. Eric's tournament ended early due to injury. Nick ended up 5th out of 21 wrestlers at 119 lbs. See Results... |

 June/July 2005 - Camps - While the new wrestling facility was under construction, St. Francis wrestlers attended a variety of summer camps including: Contos Camp; Ohio State Camp; Tim Derlen Victory Camp; Tim Derlen Intensive Camp; Jeff Jordan State Champ Camp. |
