News... 16-18 Mar 2007 - OAC Grade School & Junior State Tournament  St. Francis Wrestling Club members traveled to Cleveland State for the OAC Grade School and Junior High State Championships. Devon McGibbeny Tony Martin, Alex Mossing & Josh Mossing competed in 18 matches and came home with 11 victories. Although, their regular season was cut a bit shorter than they had desired, valuable experience was gained!! 4 Mar 2007 - Youth Tournament @ St. Francis de Sales High School  The St. Francis Wrestling Club sponsored the 2nd Annual Knight Youth Wrestling Tournament. Three hundred and eighty five wrestlers from across the states of Ohio and Michigan came to participate in a spring competition. Veiw and download your award podium photographs here. **NEW** 125 action shots - photos taken by Jerry Venia 25 Feb 2007 - Rookie Tournament @ Toledo Whitmer  Nineteen first year wrestlers from the St. Francis Biddy Club and SFWC participated in the Whitmer Panther "Rookie" Tournament. Josh, Anjel, & Jake were champions. Many of the wrestlers placed in the top four of their age and weight categories. fun was had by all!!   25 Feb 2007 - Grade School District Championships @ St. Ignatius high School Two SFWC wrestlers attended the grade school district championships at St. Ignatius. Josh was the division II Champion at 90lbs while Alex was the division III runner-up at 85lbs. Both qualify for the 2007 Grade School State Championships at cleveland State Univeristy 18 Feb 2007  - Junior High Districts @ Bowling Green State University The St. Francis Wrestling Club took eight wrestlers to the NW Ohio Junior High District tourny held at BGSU's Perry Field House. Tony Martin earned the honor of being crowned the Champion at 164 lbs and is the 1st ever SFWC Junior High District Champion! A total of twenty-four matches were contested and the Knights came away with 10 hard fought victories. 11 Feb 2007 - 5th thru 8th grade CYO Championships @ Lakewood St. Edward Seven wrestlers, an alternate, photographer, videographer, medic and four coaches traveled to Lakewood St. Edward High School for the Diocesan Championships. All seven wrestlers placed in the top six. Tony Martin was crowned champion at 165 pounds. Tony is the first ever CYO wrestling champion from Toledo Ohio! The Knights competed in 25 matches and had 12 victories. St Francis finished 6th out of the 13 team CYO field. 3 Feb 2007 - 5th thru 8th grade CYO @ St Albert the Great Twelve wrestlers and three coaches traveled to St. Albert the Great for CYO Sectional competition. The Knights competed in 33 matches and had 21 victories. Nine wrestlers advanced to the CYO Championships. Partick and Tony were crowned as Champions!! The nine qualifiers will compete next Sunday at Lakewood St. Edward High School for the Diocesan Championship! 22 Jan 2007 - 5th thru 8th grade CYO @ Ascension Thirteen wrestlers traveled to Ascension Parish to wrestle St Thomas Moore and St. Clarence Gold. The Knights competed in 26 matches and came away with 15 victories. Fun was had by all & valuable experience was gained! 14 Jan 2007 - 9th Annual Junor High Catholic Invitational Tournament Nine wrestlers from Toledo St. Francis traveled to Cleveland for the annual Junior High Catholic Invitational Tournament held at Lakewood St. Edward High School.  Akron St. Vincent St. Mary was the overall team champion and St. Paris Graham was the team runnerup. Tony Martin finished as the runner-up at 160 pounds and Kent Kern finished 6th at 142 pounds. Congratulations! 10 Jan 2007 - Alumni & Friends Annual Mixer  Immediately following the Junior Varsity and Varsity wrestling matches, Alumni and Friends of the SF wrestling program gathered to discuss the past and the future of the SFS wrestling program while enjoying food, and drink!  Alumni & friends joining Coach Janke and Coach Doc Leffler included: Jim Wolff, Phil Buerk, Bill Schuck (right), Reese Wineman (left), Dick Mattingly, Denny Pool, Jim Saba, Michael Alek, Sarge Modrowski, Michael Ray, Brad Marzec, Larry Parks, Charlie Blair, Mike Lishewski, Mike Murphy, Mike Cook, Chadd Hanus, John Mossing, Pete Cromely, Rick Frame, Jim Mossing, John Mayer, Mouse Troutman, Bill Wolff, Mike Eschrich, Jim Gill, Joe Sweeny, Matt Lark, Mike McKelvey, Joe Zychowicz, Ralph Zychowicz, Brandon Hanus, Jake Hanus, Ken Klear. Fun was had by all!  7 Jan 2007 - 5th thru 8th grade CYO @ University School  Sixteen 5th-8th grade CYO wrestlers & 3 younger brothers traveled to University School in Chagrin Falls to compete with St. Gabriel. The Knights contested 11 matches & came away with 4 victories. SF also competed in 12 exhibition bouts w 7 victories. Patrick, Kent, & Tony remain undefeated in CYO competition! 30 Dec 2006 - Junior High Duals at Toledo St. Francis  St Francis hosted a Junior High dual meet tournament. Teams from across the state participated in some solid competition. Springboro 'blue' and Columbus DeSales came away with the team Championship and Runner-up honors.  Arbor Hills, Bowling Green, Elida, Olmsted Falls, Tol St. Francis all had solid performances. 23 Dec 2006 - Junior High St. Pauls' Tournament  St. Francis 7th & 8th graders traveled to Norwalk & competed in the St. Paul JH Tourny. Ten wrestlers, contested 35 matches and came away with 20 victories. Six SF grapplers placed in the top 4 of their individual weights. Devin, Kent, Tony were finalists. Team scores were: Sandusky St. Mary’s 158, Bellevue 138.5, Elmwood 125, Milan 123.5, Norwalk 122, Monroeville 91.5, Toledo St. Francis 88, Tiffin 77, Norwalk St. Paul  76, Plymouth 62, Seneca East 56.5, Toledo Christian 51, Tiffin Calvert 44, Fremont St. Joe 41, St. Wendelin 18.  more photos  17 Dec 2006 - 5th thru 8th grade CYO Eight 4th thru 8th graders representing the St. Francis traveled to Cleveland for CYO dual meets with St. Alberts and St. Mary's. The St. Francis grapplers competed in 17 matches and came away with 7 victories. See Photos. 10 Dec 2006 - 5th thru 8th grade CYO Fifteen 4th thru 8th graders representing the St. Francis Wrestling Club traveled to Cleveland for CYO dual meets with Ascension and Holy Family. The St. Francis grapplers competed in 34 matches and came away with 23 victories. JakeV and KentK had especially challenging opponents and prevailed! Fun was had by all! See Photos. 19 Nov 2006 - Knight Youth Preseason Takedown Tournament Wrestlers from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana assembled at SFS for a preseason takedown tournament.  In keeping with the spirit of the OSU vs Michigan football rivalry, door prizes of their favorite team were won.  Coaches, parents, and wrestlers welcomed this innovative 'Takedown' format, especially in the preseason. The 'Novice' and 'Advanced' brackets were also a hit, credit goes to the Perrysburg Biddy Club for introducing this concept last season.  Thanks to the many volunteers who made this event run smoothly!  See action shots and award podium pictures.  If interested in a high res digital image of any photos on this site, send us an email. Oct 2006 - SFWC on the radio AM 1470 'The Ticket' will be airing the following radio spot.    June-Aug 2006 - Summer Wrestling Camps and Open Mats SFS Wrestlers have been working hard this summer, attending a variety of camps including the Contos Camps, Tim Dernlen Victory Camps, and Jordan Camps.  The SFS facililty is open every Wed. evening starting at 6:00 pm for open wrestling.  All are welcome to attend. Jul 2006 - Summer Wrestling Camp - Hampden-Sydney, Virginia  SFS Wrestlers traveled to Hampden-Sydney College for summer camp.  See Photos June 2006 - SFS Wrestling Camp  Toledo St. Francis hosted its first annual kids summer wrestling camp in the new SFS wrestling facility.  See Photos
