Toledo St. Francis De Sales names Vaughn
Assistant Head Wrestling Coach

Head wrestling coach and athletic director, Carl Janke has announced that effective November 5th 2004 Mr. Tony
Vaughn will be the assistant head coach of the Knight HS wrestling program.
Vaughn, a former Big Ten heavyweight wrestling champion from Purdue, joins
Coach Janke and the SF coaching staff as the
team’s lead technician. Tony will also guide the St. Francis Wrestling
Club.
Vaughn, who earned All-American honors for the
Boilermakers (1992-96), placed third at the 1994 NCAA national meet. He holds
the Purdue school single season record for most wins (40 in 1996).
In August
2004, Tony earned a Master of Science degree in Physical Education with a minor
in Athletic Administration from Eastern Illinois University. While at Eastern
Illinois, Tony acted as the wrestling team’s Graduate
Assistant Coach and assisted with the athletic department’s academic
services program. Prior to coaching at Eastern, Vaughn was the head coach at
Mount Saint Clare (IA) College for two years. He coached 14 NAIA national
qualifiers and three All-Americans. From 1997-2000, he was an assistant coach
at Manchester (IN)
College where he coached six All-Americans. Manchester finished
sixth in the nation in NCAA Division III twice during this time.
