Three time state qualifier, one time state placer, senior Brad Marzec completed his high school wrestling career as the holder of Tol. St. Francis de Sales total career win record. Brad amassed 142 career victories as a Knight and breaks the existing record of 105 career wins set by Brian Shire in 1984. Congratulations Brad! Although his final trip to the state tournament wasn't everything he had hoped for, Brad represented the Knights of Tol. St. Francis de Sales in the 67th Annual Ohio High School State Wrestling Championships with class.  The 145lb senior had a 1-2 record at this year's tournament, a tough ending to a brilliant career. Brad's post tournament comments were "I didn't want it to end this way", "A rough ending". Over his four year career, Brad  has given lots and lots of people in Northwest Ohio, his family, and coaches, plenty to cheer about. With a solid academic record and the desire to wrestle in college, Brad has a  bright future ahead of him.

Preliminary Round Competition – Thursday 6:45pm

• Senior Brad Marzec (37-3) defeated Senior Nick Ranallo (32-5) of Twinsburg. First period scoring: Brad scored the 1st takedown with a Butt-slide 39 seconds into the match; Mr. Ranallo scored an escape with 4 seconds left on the clock. Second period: Brad's opponent chose down, escaped and took Brad down to gain a 4-2 lead; After the Twinsburg wrestler was warned for stalling twice, Brad was awarded a penalty point to end the 2nd period with a score of 3-4. Third period: Brad chose down and escaped; With one minute eighteen seconds remaining in the match he scored his 2nd and final takedown on a low single to win the match by a score of 6-4.

Championship Quaterfinals - Friday 12:00pm

• After getting the first takedown in the match, Brad Marzec (37-4) was defeated by a score of 12-2 by district champion and senior Bryan Brulport (43-1) of Sidney High School.  First period scoring: Brad scored the 1st takedown with a snap-down 6 seconds into the match;  Brad rode his opponent and worked for a pinning combination for the next minute and twenty seconds. Mr. Brulport reversed to end the 1st period with a score of 2-2. Second period: Brad chose to start on his feet. Forty seconds into the period his opponent took Brad down with a single leg to make the score 4-2. The 2nd period ended with a score of 4-2. Third period: Mr. Brulport chose down and escaped, followed by a single leg takedown to make the score 7-2. The Senior from Sidney finished the 3rd period by scoring 2 sets of near-points.

• Brad will next compete in the 2nd consolation round at ~2:30pm today against Senior Brad Blieden (39-5) of Cin. Sycamore

Consolation Round 2 - Friday 2:30pm

• Brad wrestled Senior Brad Blieden (40-5) of Cin. Sycamore and was defeated by a score of 8-5. First period scoring: Brad scored the 1st takedown after a snap-down and a lengthy scramble on the mat. His opponent escaped and the 1st period ended with a score of 2-1. Second period: The Sycamore senior chose down and escaped forty seconds into the period. Ten seconds later Brad took his opponent down a second time with a snap setup to a double leg takedown. After an escape and a takedown the Cincinnati wrestler now led with a score of 5-4. While attempting to escape and facing his opponent from the bottom Brad was caught in unconventional roll and his opponent was awarded three near-fall points. The 2nd period ended with a score of 8-4.  Third period: Brad chose down and escaped, after multiple attempts from his feet Brad was unable to score and the match ended with a score of 8-5.
