2005-2006 Season Summary


Feb 24-25 2006 - NW Ohio High School District Championships  Matt Ramirez, Maks Babuder, Nate Pelker, and John Krontz competed in district tournament action and capped off successful seasons!

Feb 19 2006 - NW Ohio Junior High District Championships  Twenty 6th thru 8th grade SFWC members traveled to BGSU's Perry Field House and competed in 56 individual matches. Amongst stiff competition, 17 victories were achieved. Vincenzo Cardone placed 3rd to become a qualifier for the OAC JH State Championships. See State Tournament Bracket Here

Feb 17-18 2006 - NW Ohio High School Sectional Championships  The Knights competed in the NW Ohio Sectional Tournament at Toledo Rogers HS. The Knights qualified four wrestlers into district competition: Nate Pelker and John Krontz finished as Runner-ups, Matt Ramirez placed 3rd and Maks Babuder placed 4th. Other Knights placing 5th as district alternates were: Josh Hinojosa, Nick Brown, and Jason Goblirsch. Greg Degnan finished 6th in this sectional.

Feb 10 2006 - Junior Varsity Toledo City League Championships - For the first time in recent memory, The Junior Varsity Grappling Knights won the Toledo City League Championships!! SFS had 11 individual place winners, 8 finalists, and 2 Champions!! It was a team effort to outpoint a very tough Toledo Waite Team.Hans Baumgartner and Taylor Fawley were crowned CHAMPIONS! Mike McCarthy, Colton Hanus, David Westhoven, Alex Hanus, Aaron Dietsch, & Matt Fedynich were all runner-ups. Tim Kronbach placed 3rd. Joe Janke & Mike Szaroleta placed 4th. Team Scores: St. Francis (179.5), Waite (157.5), St. John's(142), Clay(98.5), Whitmer(78), Central Cath(74), Libbey(48), Scott(37), Start(21), Bowsher(9), Rogers(0), Woodward(0)
Feb 1 2006 - Varsity Tri-meet and Parent Night @ SFS - Greg Degnan, Jason Goblirsch, Jake Hanus, Josh Hinojosa, Erik Michaels, and Nate Pelker along with their parents were honored on parents night!  SFS hosted Oregon Clay & Toledo Start in dual meet competition, were victorious in both matchups and completed their dual meet season 6-2.
Jan 28 2006 - Junior Varsity @ Clay Invitational  - The St. Francis Junior Varsity squad won the team Championship!  Aaron Dietsch and Hans Baumgartner were crowned individual champions!  Alex Hanus and Joe Brinkman placed second.  Joe Janke, Alex Laney and Tim Kronbach placed 3rd. 
Jan 26 2006 - Varsity Tri-match @ Toledo Whitmer - The Varsity and Junior Varsity Knights traveled to Toledo Whitmer to compete in a trimatch.The Knights defeated Tiffin Columbian (42-24) and were narrowly edged by Toledo Whitmer (31-30) to bring their season dual meet record to 4-2. 
Jan 21 2006 - Junior Varsity at Cardinal Stritch Varsity Tournament - A second St. Francis squad traveled to Cardinal Stritch and participated in a 10 team varsity tournament and came away with a team runner-up honors!  Colton Hanus and Hans Baumgartner were crowned individual champions!  Mike McCarthy, Eric Durell, and Matt Fedynich were runner-ups.  Joe Janke and David Westhoven placed 3rd and placing 4th were Alex Zychowicz, Kevin Toth, and Mike Szaroleta.
Jan 21 2006 - Varsity at Wapakoneta Tournament - The varsity Knights traveled to Wapakoneta for a pool-style tournament.  Out of a field of 10 teams the Knights finished as team runner-ups (273.5 pts) to a tough Marysville squad (300.5 pts).  Twelve SFS wrestlers finished as individual place winners.  Josh Hinojosa repeated as an individual CHAMPION!
Jan 14-15 2006 - Varsity @ Catholic Invitational Tournament, Elyria -  Varsity Knights traveled to Elyria Catholic to participate in the 45th annual CIT (tourny info). The Knights wrestled 58 individual matches and came home with 31 victories.  The Knights finished 13 out of 33 teams and had two individual place winners: Sophomore Matt Rameriz placed 6th at 145lbs and Junior John Krontz placed 3rd at 275lbs. Jan 11 2006 - Varsity and Junior Varsity action @ St. John's - The Knights traveled across town to compete with Toledo St. John's in dual meet competition. The Knights were out pointed 32-13 in a dual match which contained no pins, no technical falls and 35% of the matches were determined by 3 or fewer points.The Junior Varsity squad narrowly edged out the Titans on criteria 34-33. Alex Laney won a hard fought battle to clinch the victory for the Junior Varsity Knights!!
Jan 7 2006 - Varsity @ Oak Harbor Invitational  - The varsity Knights competed in the Oak Harbor Invitational and placed 3rd in the team race. Josh Hinojosa, Eric Brown, Alex Zychowicz & Nate Pelker were runner-ups. Joe Janke & Jason Goblirsch placed 3rd. Erik Michaels, Matt Ramirez, & Matt Fedynich finished 4th. Hans Baumgartner brought home fifth place honors. Congratulations Knights!
Jan 7 2006 - Junior Varsity @ Toledo Start Invitational  - The St. Francis Junior Varsity squad won its second team Championship of the season!! Congratulations Knights!! 
Jan 4 2006 - Varsity Home Meet with Toledo Central Catholic - On Alumni night ... the Knights hosted Toledo Central Catholic in dual meet competition and out pointed the Irish 43-23 to bring their season dual meet record to 3-0. SFS wrestlers from 1965 to 2005 gathered after the match for the 2nd annual alumni mixer.The Junior Varsity knights contested 7 matches and were victorious in five.
Dec 28/29 2005 - Varsity @ Wendy's Invitational  - St. Francis traveled to Tiffin for the annual Wendy's Classic. The Knights placed 13th out of 20 solid teams and had 2 individual place winners. Aaron Dietsch placed 5th at 130lbs and Nate Pelker placed 4th at 171lbs!
Dec 28 2005 - Junior Varsity @ St. John's Invitational  - St. Francis took a partial Junior Varsity wrestling squad across town to complete in the St. John's eight team pool tournament.The Knights placed 7 out of 12 individual wrestlers and ended up 5th as a team. Tim Kronbach was crowned the Champion at 130lbs! The field included: Clay, Maumee, CCHS, St. John's, Southview,Lake, & Swanton.

Dec 23 2005 - Junior Varsity @ Clyde Invitational  - The Junior Varsity Knights traveled to Clyde Ohio and competed with 17 teams.  Twenty-two SF wrestlers competed in 74 matches and ten came home as place winners. Mike McCarthy was a runner-up at 103. Joe Janke placed 5th at 125lbs. Tim Kronbach placed 2nd @ 130. Alex Laney placed 4th at 135. Alex and Colton placed 4th and 5th respectively at 145lbs. At 152 pounds David Westhoven competed in the Championship final and ended up as a runner-up. Hans Baumgartner placed 3rd at 160. Michael Szaroleta placed 5th at 189. Matt Fedynich placed 5th at heavyweight. No team scores were kept. In addition to St. Francis, the field included Eastwood, Sandusky Perkins, and Clyde High Schools. Congratulations Knights!

Dec 17 2005 - 33rd Annual Rogers Holiday Varsity Invitational Tournament - Out of a field of 14 teams, the Knights were team runnerups to Lakewood St. Edward Green.  SFS had 13 individual place winners and Nick Brown was crowned the individual CHAMPION at 119 lbs!  See Results
Dec 10 2005 - Whitmer Junior Varsity Invitational Tournament - The Junior Varsity grapplers competed at the Toledo Whitmer Invitational Tournament and came back with the Team Championship!
Dec 8 2005 - Varsity Home Trimeet - The varsity knights opened their home dual meet season with impressive victories over Toledo Rogers and Toledo Bowsher high schools.  The freshmen and JV also saw action.  The Jr. High squad wrestled 28 individual matches against a competitive East Toledo Jr. High team.  See Results

Dec 3 2005 - Maumee Freshman Tournament - 12 Freshmen represented St. Francis de Sales High School at the Andy Bates Memorial Freshman Tournament.  The Knights placed 4th out of 20 solid teams.  This team finish is one notch higher than last year's finish of 5th place overall. Individually the Knights had two Champions in Eric Brown and Aaron Dietsch! Also placing in the top four for SF were Mike McCarthy (3rd), and Alex Laney (4th).  See more photos here

Nick Brown and Eric Michaels - 2005 Junior OlympicsAug 2005 - Junior Olympics - Nick Brown and Eric Michaels represented Ohio in the 2005 Junior Olympics in New Orleans, LA.  Eric's tournament ended early due to injury.  Nick ended up 5th out of 21 wrestlers at 119 lbs.  See Results... 
 
Victory Camp GangJune/July 2005 - Camps -  While the new wrestling facility was under construction, St. Francis wrestlers attended a variety of summer camps including: Contos Camp; Ohio State Camp; Tim Derlen Victory Camp; Tim Derlen Intensive Camp; Jeff Jordan State Champ Camp.
