News... 23/24 Feb 2007 - District Championships @ Mentor High School Eight wrestlers of Toledo St. Francis de Sales High School represented Northwest Ohio at the NE/NW Division I District at Mentor High School. Matt Ramirez, Hans Baumgartner, & Vincenzo Cardone came away with victories. Although their year ended a bit earlier than desired the Knights had a fine season. Seniors Nick Brown, Hans Baumgartner, and John Krontz represented SFS well all season and all three are looking forward to starting their college careers! The underclassman are already starting to prepare for next season by engaging in some off season training with the FoxFire Wrestling Club. See district results here | 16/17 Feb 2007 - Sectional Championships @ Toledo Rogers The Knights qualify eight wrestlers to the OHSAA Division I NW/NE district championships. Hans Baumgartner was crowned as the sectional Champion at 171 lbs. Overall the Knights finished 3rd in the field of 13 teams. Vincenzo Cardone placed 3rd. Daniel Cook, Alex Marzec, Aaron Cook, Aaron Dietsch, Matt Ramirez, Matt Fedynich placed 4th. John Krontz placed 5th. Nick Brown, Joe Janke, & Maks Babuder placed 6th. | 10 Feb 2007 - Varsity @ Toledo City League Championships All fourteen of the Varsity Knights scored in the TCL Championships providing enough balance for the Knights to bring home the team runnerup honors. Nick Brown and Hans Baumgartner were named to the All City Academic Team!! Nick, Hans, & Maks Babuder were finalists, Dan Cook, Matt Ramirez, Matt Fedynich & John Krontz placed 3rd. Placing 4th were: Drew Hanus, Aaron Dietsch, Eric Brown, & Vincenzo Cardone. Aaron Cook and Alex Marzec placed 6th. See photos of the Knights here see the results and Toledo Blade article. Toledo Whitmer won the team championship, Roshawn Jones was the Outstanding Wrestler, the field house was dedicated to Jim Vitale, and the all city academic team was named - see all of those photos here. | 9 Feb 2007 - Junior Varsity @ Toledo City League Championships The Junior Varsity wrestling squad finished their season by placing 3rd at the Toledo City League Championships. Joe Janke and Colton Hanus finished as Champions at 135 and 171 lbs respectively. Mike McCarthy and Kevin Toth finished 2nd. Sam Horvath, Alex Hanus, & David Westhoven finished 3rd. Joe Brinkman & Aaron Morrin finished 4th. St John's finished 1st with 163.5 , Clay 146, St. Francis 124.5, Start 87, Whitmer 80.5 | 3 Feb 2007 - Junior Varsity @ Oregon Clay Invitational The Junior Varsity wrestling squad competed in their final invitaional tournament of the season and came home with the team runner-up honors. The Eagles from oregon Clay were team Champions. Colton Hanus was crownerd the champion of 171 pounds! Other Knight finalists were: Mike McCarthy, Joe Janke, and Sam Horvath. Congratulations Knights! | 31 Jan 2007 - Varsity Home Tri-meet SFS outpointed the Whitmer Panthers 33-28 & were defeated by the Start Spartans 34- 30 in dual meet competition. The Knights finished their dual meet season with a 5-2 record. Aaron Dietsch, Maks Babuder, & Matt Fedynich were undefeated on the night! Seniors Nick Brown, Hans Baumgartner, and John Krontz and their parents were honored during pre-match festivities. | 27 Jan 2007 - Junior Varsity @ Cardinal Stritch Invitational The Junior Varsity wrestling squad competed at the varsity level at the Cardinal Stritch Invitational Tourny. The Knights placed ahead of six varsity squads and finished 4th overall. Individually: Colton Hanus was crowned as the Champion at 171lbs! Mike McCarthy and David Westhoven were runner-ups. Joe Brinkman and Joe Janke placed third. Michael Westhoven and Alex Hanus finished fourth in their respective weight classifications. Congratulations Knights! | 24 Jan 2007 - Varsity Tri-meet @ Tiffin Columbian The Varsty Knights traveled to Tiffin to battle with the Findlay Trojans and the Columbian Tornados. The Knights raised their season dual meet record to 4-1 by narrowly defeating Findlay 29-28 and outpointing the Tornados 54-20. Double winners for the Knights included Daniel Cook, Alex Marzec, Aaron Cook & Eri Brown. Congratulations!! The Knight grapplers were 7-7 with Findlay in individual matches and gave up one less bonus point. SFS was 9-5 against Tiffin and capitalized on every bonus point possible to score 54 points.
| 21 Jan 2007 - Varsity @ Wapakoneta Invitational The varsity Knights traveled to Wapakonata and placed 4th in a solid field of ten teams. Individually Maks Babuder and John Krontz were crowned as Champions! | 20 Jan 2007 - Junior Varsity @ Bedford Invitational The St. Francis Junior Varsity Knights competed in a ten team field at the Bedford Invitational Tournament. Team scores were not kept but Coach Blair and Coach Vaughn led the Knights to nine individual place finishes. Mike McCarthy, Mike Westhoven, and David Westhoven were crowned Champions! Aaron Morrin placed 2nd, Joe Brinkman, Joe Janke and Sam Horvath finished 3rd. Austin Pavain & Austin Biglow placed 4th and Kevin Carr ended up 6th. Congratulations Knights on a great day! | 13/14 Jan 2007 - 46th Annual Catholic Invitational Tournament Toledo Toledo St. Francis finished 14th out of a field of 37 Catholic High Schools from across the state of Ohio. Freshman Daniel Cook (left) placed 6th at 112lbs and Senior John Krontz (right) finished 4th at 285lbs. 10 Jan 2007 - Varsity Toledo St. Johns dual meet Fans enjoyed an excellent atmosphere for a high school dual meet and cheered the Knights on, as they defeated cross town rivals, the Titans of Toledo St. John's by a score of 30-21. Ten of the fourteen matches ended in a decision and three of those went into overtime. The Knights won two out of the three OT matches and brought their season dual meet record to 2-1. In Junior Varsity competition the Knights won 10 out of 12 matches and outpointed the Titans 48-6. Immediately Following the event, Alumni and Friends of the SF wrestling program gathered for fun, food, and drink! | 6 Jan 2007 - Varsity Oak Harbor Invitational The Varsity Knights placed 2nd in the nine team field at the Oak Harbor Invitational. All thirteen grapplers placed, 8 were finalists. Alex Marzec, Nick Brown, Maks Babuder were Champions! Daniel cook, Aaron Cook, Matt Ramirez, Vincenzo Cardone, John Krontz were runner-ups. Joe Janke and Eric Brown placed fourth. Matt Fedynich placed 5th and Sam Horvath placed 6th. Maks Babuder was named the tournament MVP. | 6 Jan 2007 - Junior Varsity Toledo Start Invitational The Junior Varsity squad competed at the Toledo Start Invitational Tournament and finished 4th out of a field of twenty-one teams. Ten SFS wrestlers competed. Aaron Dietsch and Mike McCarthy were crowned individual Champions! Alex Laney and David Westhoven placed 3rd in their respective weight classes. | | 6 Jan 2007 - Freshman Whitmer Invitational Tourny The St. Francis de Sales took a small Freshman squad to the Whitmer Tournament. Kevin Carr placed 4th overall. | 4 Jan 2007 - Varsity Toledo Central Catholic dual meet The Knights of Toledo St. Francis de Sales matched up with Toledo Central Catholic in dual meet competition. The Knights outpointed the Irish by the score of 46-18 by recording four falls and a major decision. Congratulations Knights! The Knights were led by Seniors Nick Brown and John Krontz both recording falls. The remaining twelve SFS positions were filled by underclassmen with five freshman in the lineup. The Knights bring their season dual meet record to 1-1. Thanks to BCSN for televising the event.

Sam Horvath and Mike McCarthy were crowned Champions. The Knights had 5 other place winners as well. | 28 Dec 2006 - Varsity Wendy's Invitational The Varsity Knights traveled to Tiffin for the Wendy's Invitational Tourny and had 7 individual place winners: John Krontz was a finalist. Nick Brown & Matt Ramirez placed 3rd. Aaron Cook placed 5th; Daniel Cook, Maks Babuder, Matt Fedynich placed 6th.The Knights finished 7th out of a field of 17 teams. See all results here. See more photos here. | 27 Dec 2006 - Junior Varsity Clyde Invitational The Junior Varsity Knights traveled to Clyde OH for the annual Clyde Holiday Invitational Tournament. Eric Brown, & Mike McCarthy were crowned individual Champions! | 20 Dec 2006 - Varsity Bedford dual meet The St. Francis de Sales Varsity opened their dual meet season with the Kicking Mules of Bedford Michigan. Bedford, one of Michigan's historically dominant wrestling teams brought a very solid team into the PIT. | 16 Dec 2006 - Junior Varsity Whitmer Invitational The St. Francis de Sales junior varsity wrestlers grappled to a fourth place finish at the Whitmer junior varsity wrestling tournament. Fourteen Knights took the mat and battled against twenty other teams throughout the day. When the wrestling was complete, Joe Brinkman, Joe Janke, Sam Horvath, Alex Hanus and Colton Hanus all finished in the top four of their respective weight classes.
| 15 Dec 2006 - Varsity Rogers Invitational The Varsity wrestling team opened their season at the Toledo Rogers Holiday Invitational Tournament with a field of 12 teams. The Knights finished as team runner-ups and placed 13 wrestlers in the top four. The Knights had a total of seven finalists. Nick Brown (130) and Vincenzo Cardone (189) were crowned individual Champions! Congratulations Knights! See more photos and results here. | 9 Dec 2006 - Freshman Andy Bates Invitational Tourny The St. Francis de Sales freshman wrestling team brought home championship honors from the 10th Annual Maumee Freshman Wrestling Invitational. The Knights entered nine grapplers into Saturday’s competition and six of them walked away with awards for finishing in the top four of their respective weight class. Drew Hanus placed fourth in the 98-pound weight class, Michael Westhoven placed 3rd while Daniel Cook, Alex Marzec, Sam Horvath, and Vincenzo Cardone each worked their way to the top of their division by pinning every single one of their opponents. See Photos. | 07 Dec 2006 - Junior Varsity Rogers/Bowsher Tri-meet The St. Francis de Sales Junior Varsity wrestling team started the season with the same momentum that led them to the City League championship last year. The grappling Knights earned two dual match victories against varsity level opponents at Rogers High School. SFS defeated the host team, Rogers, by a score of 60-12 as five wrestlers earned match victories by fall. The Knights kept things rolling against Bowsher high school with the help of seven wrestlers earning victories by pinning their opponents. When the dust settled, the Knights had outscored the Rebels by a score of 45-21. Sam Horvath (L) works a half nelson on his way to a 12-5 victory against a Bowsher opponent. | 10-11 Nov 2006 - Opening Weekend High School Wrestling Retreat SFS Wrestlers, Coaches, and Parents gathered for a retreat weekend to start their season off. See the schedule and the photos! The weekend retreat Day 1 consisted of: Practice, dinner with parents, Mass, goal setting, battleball, movie, team discussions. Day 2: two more practices, breakfast and lunch, team building exercises.The Knights are setting their sights on a successful and fun season!!

The SFS facililty is open every Wed. evening starting at 6:00 pm for open wrestling.
